A few words from CEO

Over the past few years, it looked like everything would be put into a tiny docker container and shipped onto a massive Kubernetes cluster. However, the final days of 2021 seem to be the last days of the Great Microservicification Movement. The excitement over containerization is being replaced by a reasonable understanding of its limits and benefits. As a result, The Majestic Monolith is having a revival in Rails. Rails 7 is shipped with Hotwire, and no need to bundle JS assets, taking a great deal of hassle off Rails developers' minds.

2021 was the year we really pushed our Rails product to the next level with a ton of new features, and we're not done yet! We have big feature releases planned for Rails in 2022, and I can't wait to share them with you.

We also released an early version of Prepress, our JAMStack product. Prepress is a powerful service that combines the convenience of AWS S3, Cloudfront, and automatic SSL certificates. Next year, we will roll out a significant set of improvements for Prepress with exciting new features at an attractive price point for anyone who wants to host their static sites on their own cloud storage.

Finally, I wanted to take a moment and thank all of our amazing and supportive fellow developers and customers. Building great products for you is what motivates all of us here. Thank you!

Our work in 2021

This year we rolled out a number of new tools, features, and even a new product. We also implemented improvements to existing features to enhance our service. We are extremely proud that we were able to support so many developers this year.

Just a quick reminder of what we have done:

For Rails applications, we sped up Rails Deployments by 25%, enabled support for Ruby with jemalloc, and updated the versions for Redis 6.2 and Ruby 3.0.

For the containerized applications we added Maestro Secret/ConfigMap Volume Support, allowing fast scaling Maestro services, updated the Maestro dashboard, and updated the Kubernetes version to (v1.21.x).

In October we released a new product called, Cloud 66 Prepress. It allows you to deploy your static sites, built with Jekyll, Gatsby or Hugo to your own AWS account and sets up everything you need to get your site up and running with your own domain and SSL certificates.

We also rolled out a bunch of tools that support all our products such as:

We open-sourced MySQL backend for CoreDNS GitHub page - a plugin that allows you to use MySQL as a backend to store DNS records.

Additionally, we announced a partnership with Maxihost, a global bare-metal cloud provider and we created a Cloud 66 Customer Partnership Program. We've teamed up with Buink, Commutatus, Flumes, Kai Software, Randock, SmartrMail, and Abletech, to help developers and businesses build, deploy and manage applications on any cloud.
