Hey everyone,
We've got some exciting news to share - wildcard SSL certificates are now available on Cloud 66!
If you're not familiar with wildcard SSL certificates, they allow you to secure multiple subdomains under a single certificate. This means you can use the same certificate for your main domain and all its subdomains (for example "www.yourdomain.com" or "blog.yourdomain.com") without having to purchase and manage multiple certificates.
Our options for adding an SSL certificate to your application are now updated to include the following:
- Standard - backed by Let's Encrypt's HTTP-01 challenge
- Wildcard - backed by Let's Encrypt's DNS-01 challenge
- External - allows you to add your own SSL certificates that you've obtained elsewhere.
To set up a Wildcard certificate on Cloud 66, just open your app on your Dashboard and click Network, then SSL Certificate, and then "Add SSL". From there, you'll need to select a DNS provider to verify your ownership of the domain. Once that's done, your wildcard SSL certificate will be automatically installed on all the servers and load balancers in your application.
Due to their nature, Wildcard SSL certificates required access to your DNS Provider to validate. We've added a new section under your account's external services to provide your DNS Provider API credentials. See our help documentation for more information!
Not only are wildcard SSL certificates more cost-effective and convenient, but they offer the same level of security as traditional certificates, keeping your visitors' data fully encrypted and protected.
We're excited to offer this new feature and hope it makes securing your sites even easier. As always, if you have any questions or need help setting up your wildcard SSL certificate, let our support team know.
